College Office
All that we do at Brooklyn Preparatory High School centers around college
preparedness. In advisories students experience at least two college
visits per school year. Our curriculum and assessment revolve around
the Habits of Mind that we believe students must develop in order to be
successful in college, career and life:
- Perspective - identifying the question, issue or viewpoint
- Analysis - using relevant information to draw a conclusion
- Connections - connecting work to self, community, other topics and issues
- Imagination - using creativity and taking risks
- Commitment - revision, cooperation, hard work, perseverance
Brooklyn Prep has a College and Career Counselor dedicated to supporting
students and families through the college process, beginning in the 9th
grade. We are also pleased to announce a new partnership with the
prestigious College Summit program! Brooklyn Preparatory’s mission is to
prepare all students to succeed in a challenging college program and a
fulfilling career and ultimately, to take on an extraordinary responsibility
for our world. We are a small, college preparatory high school where
academic rigor is accompanied by intensive individual support; a nurturing
community where every student is known well; and a learning organization
where both young people and adults are actively engaged in inquiry,
reflection, and collaboration. Brooklyn Prep also offers extra curricular
activities that allow students get involved in service and internships
College and Career Advisor: Madeline Marks
I received my Bachelor's degree from SUC Brockport where I double majored
in Dance and Communication. I went on to get my Master's Degree in counseling at
New York University. To pay for my master's degree, I worked at the Admissions Office
at New York University's Graduate School of Business. I continued to work in
admission as the Director of Admission at Metropolitan College and St. Peter's College
and then as the Assistant Director of Admissions at Long Island University Flatbush Exension.
After 11 years I felt with my knowledge ad experience in college admissions I would be
able to bring useful information to students who were actually applying to college. My first
year with the Department of Education was as a College Advisor, however though a lot of twists
and turns throughout my career at the DOE, I was also a 5th Grade Teacher, a Resource Room
Teacher, A Related Service Counselor, Transition Coordinator and 9th & 10th Grade Guidance Counselor.
I feel very priveleged to be working again with the Class of 2010; this time as their College Advisor.
This is a very ambitious and hard working group of students who are also excited and hopeful about
their future.
I believe that each student has a unique gift and talent; living and doing what we are
most passionate about in life, motivates us to do our best. Finding that passion and building a carreer
around it, is the key to one's success. I believe you can do anything, be open to all the
possibilities and opportunities that will come your way.
I am also a certified Aerobics Instructor where I teach at various gyms throughout the metropolitan area.
