College Level Courses
At Brooklyn Prep High School, we believe in challenging our students to reach their full potential. That's why we offer both Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses. These courses give every student multiple pathways to earn college credit, and develop college-level skills.
What is Dual Enrollment?
- Dual Enrollment allows BPHS students to take college courses while still in high school through partnerships with local colleges.
- Students can earn actual college credit that transfers to most colleges and universities if they successfully complete these courses.
What Dual Enrollment courses do we offer?
BPHS offers the following 3 DE courses:
- Psychology - in partnership with University at Albany
- Chemistry - in partnership with University of Pittsburgh
- Calculus - in partnership with University of Pittsburgh
Why take Dual Enrollment courses?
- Earn college credits: Earn transferable college credits by successfully completing the course - no exam required.
- Boost your college applications: Show colleges you're ready for college-level work and can succeed in challenging courses.
- Save Money: Get a head start on your college degree and potentially graduate earlier, saving tuition costs.
What is AP?
- AP stands for Advanced Placement and it is a program through the College Board which gives you intro-level college class experience while you are at BPHS.
- You can earn college credit and/or start taking more advanced classes when you begin college if you can pass the AP exam with a score of 3 or above.
What AP courses do we offer?
BPHS offers the following 7 AP courses:
- AP English and Literature
- AP European History
- AP Spanish and Language
- AP Studio Art
- AP Environmental Science
- AP African American Studies
- AP United States History
Why are AP Exams important?
- College Success: AP courses are challenging and teach you writing, thinking and problem-solving skills to prepare you for college and career.
- Boost your college applications: AP classes “wow” college admissions because they show you took the hardest courses available at your school.
- Credit: Entering college with AP credits gives you chance to take more advanced, interesting courses as a freshman.
- Save Money: Possibly graduate college in a shorter amount of time, saving you money.
