Why ISA? -- Because Every Student Deserves an Excellent Education
Focused on improving academic achievement, the
Institute for Student Achievement partners with schools and school districts to create
autonomous small schools and to transform large comprehensive high schools into academically
rigorous, personalized learning environments, called small learning communities, that prepare
all students for success in college and beyond.
ISA is in the business of Inspiring Students to Achieve. Young people of all races, ethnicities,
genders and economic backgrounds enter ISA partner schools in neighborhoods where disparities in
the quality of education have been most severe. Almost immediately they are asked to give voice
to their dreams.
“What do you want for your future?” ISA teachers ask students.
“I want to go to college, and I want to succeed in life,” say more than 80 percent of them.
At ISA, we’re making good on those dreams. Our educational approach recognizes the need to
combine academic rigor and high expectations within a community that emphasizes social and
emotional support. The ISA Model is built on Seven Principles that thoughtfully transform
the roles played by the school, the teacher and the parent as all three challenge, motivate
and support the student, forming an intellectually stimulating and caring learning environment
that prepares them for college and beyond.
So Why ISA? Because when education is a priority, high school students – even those labeled as
“at risk” in our society – can claim their own lives and make excellence an expectation that’s
resident in each of them.
