Capstone

Every 12th grade student takes the Capstone Course; A course designed to build college level reading, writing and discussion for graduating students.  The first semester, students read and discuss ideas and questions around controversial issues in the world today.  The second semester, students research and write in-depth about topics of their interest and present on these topics.

Research

Students have choices on topics like minimum wage, presidential candidates, homelessness, LGBTQ issues, media and stereotypes, or a topic of their choice.  They are to create an original question to explore and research opinions on these topics.

Write

Students create research papers of 7-12 pages based on questions such as:
  • What is the "school-to-prison pipeline," and how can it be stopped in NYC and other major U.S. cities?
  • Is LGBT discrimination a real issue in America?
  • Is the mass media informing people on latest news without bias?
  • How can the US Federal and State Governments continue to help improve homelessness in NYC?
